Delphinium exaltatum

Tall Larkspur

One of my favorites natives.

Purplish-blue tubular flowers bloom mid-summer attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Foliage looks good all summer and blooms appear at a time when more color is wanted in the garden. Excellent in large groupings.

Plant in full to part shade in average to moist soils. Amend soil with compost before planting in clay. Height 4-5′. Spread 1-2′. Native from Pennsylvania to Alabama. Zones 4-8.
