Japanese Roof Iris

Large 6″ deep lilac-blue to purple flowers with white crests bloom in summer. Glossy, semi-evergreen, lush foliage is tidy and holds up well through the summer giving nice structure to the garden. Gets its name from the fact that it used to be grown on thatch roofs in Japan. Also, the root was ground and used as a face powder.

Full sun to shade. Height 12-18″. Zones 4-8.
