Sky Blue Aster
Discovered in Ohio at the Olentangy River, this aster bursts into bloom in the heat of the summer til fall. Petite daisy-like flowers with blue-violet rays and yellow eyes bloom in abundance, attracting oodles of butterflies and beneficials gathering pollen and nectar. Flower color noticeably leans toward azure as its previous name, Aster azurea indicated.
Green leaves get smaller up the stem and turn reddish in fall. Easy to grow and drought tolerant. Native to prairies and fields in central and eastern US where it is important for prairie restoration.
