Black Gamecock Louisiana Iris

Very showy dark purple to black velvety flowers open up to 6″ wide! Each petal has a dash of golden highlights for contrast. Late spring bloomtime extends the iris season. Foliage stays attractive long into the summer.

A water-loving iris, so the wetter the soil, the more vigorous the growth–can take up to 6″ of standing water. Naturalize along ponds and streams and wet areas. Mary Swords DeBallion Medal (from American Iris Society).

Native to Louisiana and surrounding areas. Full-part sun. Height and Spread 2-3′. Deer tolerant. Toxic to dogs, cats, and horses. Zones 4-9.
