Stiff Aster
A unique native that produces clusters of 1″, daisy-like flowers in shades of blue-violet with a bright central yellow disc on stiff stems. Needle-like foliage turns from green to shades of purple, orange, and yellow after bloom time.
Create a carpet of lush late-summer blooms in the rock garden or front border, especially when paired with like-minded plants–Asclepias tuberosa, Monarda punctata, and Solidago odora. The pollinators will thank you.
Prefers full sun in sandy to gravelly soil. Height 1-2″. Spread 6-12″. Drought tolerant. Native to northeastern US. Zones 4-9.
