Japanese Painted Fern

One of the most rewarding ferns, the long, soft grayish-green fronds are silvery hued with dusty purple centers, veins, and stems. Its low mounding habit slowly spreads to form dense, layered mounds of arching fronds. More silver colored in spring shading to green in hotter temps.

Plant in border fronts in woodland gardens or along shaded streams/ponds where the many soft colors will mix and mingle beautifully with the other woodlanders. Award of Garden Merit and Perennial Plant of the Year.

Full-part shade. Height 1-1.5′. Spread 1.5-2′. Rabbit resistant. Zones 3-8.
