Asclepias perennis

Aquatic Milkweed

This new to PHN milkweed had us all swooning last summer, and we can hardly wait to incorporate it into our gardens this year. Clear white flowers with rose-pink highlights bloom all summer. A tidy grower, this monarch host plant fits easily into smaller gardens. This native wetland plant occurs naturally along the Mississippi River in Illinois and south to the Gulf, extending over to Florida. Aquatic milkweed enjoys moist to wet soils, but we have also grown it in average soils with great success.
