Eastern Smooth Beardtongue

If you’re a first-time penstemon grower, this is a great one to start with in your garden. Native to the eastern US, it has pale purplish-white tubular flowers that appear in clusters May through July attracting an abundance of birds and bees, as well as hummingbirds.

Easy to grow in rich, moist soils in sun, but will even tolerate some shade. Excellent addition to rock, cottage, and native meadow gardens.

Full-part sun. Height 2-3′. Spread 2′. Zones 6-8.
