Scarlet Mallow

One of the largest and most beautiful of America’s native plants. Has 6″, saucer-like, scarlet-red flowers on upright stalks. Palmate green foliage with burgundy tones adds tropical texture. Leave the stalks in winter to enjoy ornamental seed pods. Group in average to moist locations: ponds, streams, rain gardens. Does well in rear of perennial borders.

Full sun. Height 3-6′. Spread 2-3′. Zones 6-9. Native to swampy soils of the south.
