Wooly Dutchman’s Pipevine

A fast- and high-growing native vine that is host to the pipevine swallowtail larvae. Young stems and lower surface of heart-shaped leaves are covered with fine wooly hairs. Green-yellow, pipe-shaped flowers bloom spring to early summer.

Vigorous vine for creating shade and coverage along fences and trellises. Brown fruit capsules form in September. Pollinated by flies. Wooly, medium-sized leaves differentiate it from A. macrophylla‘s larger, smoother leaves.

Full-part sun. Height 20′. Spread 5’. Zones 5-8.
