American Basket Flower

We’re smitten! 4″ pinkish-lavender ray flowers surrounding fluffy white discs bloom profusely all summer. The flowers open up from egg-shaped buds that have a unique woven pattern. Butterflies and bees are frequent visitors, and the fluffy seedheads provide a feast for the songbirds. Soft, honey fragrance. What a plant!

Excellent for back of the border and cottage and meadow gardens mixed in with grasses and other wildflowers. Self-seeds.

Full sun. Height 2-4′. Spread 2-3′. Good cut flower. Native to eastern US. Annual.
