Habranthus tubispathus var. texensis
Copper Lily
After a good rainfall, you are in for a treat. Yellow-orange lily-flowers with streaks of bronze bloom first followed by narrow allium-like green leaves. Will self-seed and spread by bulblets to form colonies in tough, sunny areas where only well-drained soil is needed.
Expect this pumpkin-spice treat as a harbinger of fall. Native to South America; naturalized in Texas and Louisiana and, we suspect, anywhere we humans scatter the seed to enjoy its delicious beauty.
Full sun. Height 6-12″. Zones 7-10.
