If you like large-leaved plants that make a bold statement this plant is for you!
Large, sandpaper-like leaves mature in size in early summer followed by tall, thick flower stems with clusters of yellow, daisy-like flowers in late summer–a late bloomer compared to other silphiums.
Excellent mixed with prairie grasses in meadow and native gardens. Bees and goldfinches are frequent customers. It is a real treat to watch the goldfinches sit atop the tall stems and forage for the delicious seeds. Very long-lived with a deep taproot for great drought tolerance and years of enjoyment.
Full sun. Very tall–3-10′. Spread 1-3′. Deer, rabbit, and drought tolerant. NATIVE. Zones 4-8.
