Georgia Aster

Georgia aster sets itself apart by its large 2″ blue-violet flowers that bloom late in the fall. Although native to pineland and savanna ecosystems in Georgia, Alabama, northern Florida, North and South Carolina it is not widely distributed in those areas and is listed as an endangered species in some of these states. Recommended by a very discerning gardener for its welcomed contribution to the fall garden, consider planting S. georgianum for conservation reasons as well.

Full sun. Height 1.5-3′. Spread 3-4′. Well-drained soils; no wet feet. Zones 3-9.

Special note: The color on the two photos have not been changed. In different light Georgia aster may look blue or violet. Cooler temperatures and softer light appear to bring out more of the blue.
