A profusion of yellow sunflowers bloom on 5-8′ stems in the summer. Flowers are very attractive to butterflies. It is not uncommon to see 10-15 butterflies on one plant. Seeds are a food source for birds. A long-lived, useful native for the back of the border or growing along a wall. If shorter plants are desired, cut down to the basal rosette in June, and cup plant will flower on 3′ stems.
Full sun. Average to fertile, moist soils. Native to eastern US. Zones 5-9.
