Downy Skullcap

I first fell in love with this plant from about 50′ away where it was shining in the afternoon light. From a distance Downy Skullcap looked like a sea of blue foam. On approaching, I could see the individual flowers were a clear amethyst and soft white accented by silvery down on the stems. Needless to say, I swooned a bit! Understated exquisiteness. ~sigh~

Equally lovely in high shade, an open meadow style garden and the perennial border offering a serene calming vibe. Leaf color is medium green. Clouds of lavender-blue, flowers bloom on 2-3′ stems July – September.

Native to open woods and slopes of central and eastern US.

Full-part sun. Height 2-3′. Spread 1.5-2′. Deer and rabbit resistant–foliage is unpalatable, oh, yeah!! Zones 5-8.

4.5″ pot
