Shooting Star
This native ephemeral has always been a favorite of mine. Its show is fleeting like most ephemerals but oh so sweet while present. The white recurved petals and golden yellow anthers resembling a shooting star or a badminton shuttle. The flower is only about 1″ and dangles from a long stem that gracefully bends with the blossom. It’s just such a treat!
Blooms in early spring, March to April and enjoys moist cool soils before going dormant for the summer. The foliage is smooth, apple green basal tufts similar to other members in its family of the Primulacea.
Native to woods and meadows, Maryland to Wisconsin and Iowa south to Texas, Alabama, and Georgia.
Grow in part sun to shady conditions. Average to moist soils. Summer dormant. Zones 4-9.
2.5″ pot
