Leavenworth’s Coreopsis
New for us and we love it! Shown here with another native of the southeast, Eryngium leavenworthii, Coreopsis leavenworthii’s cheery flowers have bloomed June through November in the gardens at Putnam Hill. Bright, clear yellow petals surround mahogany centers that never fail to bring a smile. Slender stems and leaves have an airy quality making the flowers look as if they float; very sweet and lovely fitting very well into perennial plantings. The petals yield an orange dye and the center discs a lovely brown. Native to Florida and Alabama.
Grows as an annual or short-lived perennial. Height 3-4′. Spread 1-2′. Full-part sun. Average to lean soils. Deer resistant.
