A southern midwest native with clean white bottlebrush flowers May-October. Mature plants reach up to 5 feet or more and have an open airy habit. The flowers appear to dance on the wind! Very rare in the trade and 100% garden worthy!
Prefers dry, gravelly soils and does not want irrigation. Put it in your hottest, driest spot and watch the flower show all summer long.
Some sources report this to be a probable biennial. Janet Draper says she has been growing it gorgeously in the Ripley Garden on the National Mall for 3 years on a sharp draining slope before showing some signs of reaching its full life cycle so treat false gaura as a short lived perennial with lots of pizzazz or a long lived show-stopping biennial. It is well worth it!
Full sun. Good drainage. Very drought tolerant. Prefers average to lime soils. Height 5’ or more. Spread 3’. Zones 5?-9
