Violet Wood Sorrel
Violet wood sorrel is a lovely little eastern US native that is found in dryish, acidic soils in rocky open woods, fields, glades, and prairies.
‘Love in Vein’ got its name at the Mt. Cuba Center for the unusual purplish blush to each heart-shaped leaflet. Typically, violet wood sorrel has solid green leaves. Five-petaled pink flowers with white and green centers cheerily bloom in profusion in spring until the hot days of summer roll in.
Full sun to part shade. Height 6-8”. Spreads by underground bulblets. Typically summer dormant and occasional second flowering in the fall. NATIVE. Zones 6-10.
