Ludwigia alternifolia

Seedbox
The yellow flowers and deep green leaves with reddish petioles on wispy arching stems are quite pleasant on this eastern US native but the coolest thing is the box shaped seed capsules that are good for dried cut flower arrangements or those inclined to be thrilled by the marvels of the natural world. At 1′-2′ high it is useful for seeding around here and there in the naturalistic style garden, planted in a more formal style garden they would be lovely as a sweep, or used as edging in a cut flower garden. Typically found in moist to wet areas it will also grow happily in rain gardens and low, wet places as well as in average soils.
Full-part sun. Height and spread 1-2′. Native. Zones 4-8.
2.5″ pot
