Here’s a southern native that needs our notice. Alabama War Bonnet has golden yellow flowers with yellow-orange centers that bloom late summer on sturdy stems with oblong, green leaves. A vigorous grower that can take a hard cutback and revitalize quickly.
A rare plant, native only to the moist streambanks and open woodlands of Alabama and Georgia. Classified as “vulnerable” in those areas due to land-use conversion and habitat fragmentation.
