Albury Purple St. John’s Wort

St. John’s Wort is widely known as an herbal treatment for mild depression and stress. The leaves and flowers can be used to make a tea. Albury Purple has dark plum to green leaves, small yellow flowers on 2-3″ stems that bloom in spring, and red berries that age to black in the fall.

Named for the tradition of harvesting the herb on St. John’s Day, June 24, and hanging sprigs over St. John’s picture to ward off evil spirits.

Full sun to part shade. Height and spread 2-3′. Deer resistant. Do not plant near forage areas as it can be toxic to livestock. Zones 3-10.
