Eryngium planum

Sea Holly

How remarkable are the things we find in nature? Look at this sea holly. Steely blue flowers on elongated globes fringed by a violet skirt are held aloft on long, slender, glowing stems. Now imagine the butterflies dancing about…perhaps some grasses blowing in the wind nearby and oh! That yellow sunflower is just making these colors POP! Make sure you plant enough of them because you will want to cut some for fresh and dried flower arrangements.

Full sun. Good drainage. Height 2-3′. Spread 3′. Zones 5-8.
