Echinops bannaticus ‘Blue Globe’
Fear not the word “thistle” for this is not the thistle that plagues gardens with its deep taproot and shaggy appearance. This is the lovely cut flower that is essential to the cottage garden or anywhere you want 2-3″ blue globes bobbing 3′ above clean foliage, looking happy while feeding the local bumbles, butterflies, hummingbirds, and honeybees its nectar. Makes a great cut and dried flower too! Full sun and well-drained soil. 3′ in bloom. Zones 3-7.
*Try mixing different varieties of globe thistles that have different shades of blue and varying heights for an ethereal effect.
