Appalachian Sedge
A fine-textured, semi-evergreen sedge that curves and swirls as it grows, capturing light and movement within the shade garden. It has narrow, arching leaves and a clumping habit slowly spreads to form colonies. Spring flowers only look inconspicuous–they provide important nectar and seeds to native insects and birds.
Will flourish in dry, shaded areas as long as the soil is well-drained so grow it with any of your native shade bloomers such as Iris cristata, Tiarella, and Aquilegia. Native to the dry woods of eastern US.
Full-part shade. Height 6″. Spread 12-18″. Deer resistant. Cut back in winter. Zones 3-8.
