The bluebell of literature—delicate blue-violet, bell-shaped flowers nod on slender stems all summer charming the likes of Shakespeare, Bronte, Dickinson…and us. Rosettes of rounded leaves form the base of this US and northern European native. Needs afternoon shade in hot summer. Best in rock gardens, border fronts, and lightly shaded woodlands. Self-seeds.
