Yellow False Indigo

This plant has been a long time favorite of mine. It never fails to please from the first days of spring when the young shoots push out of the soil to the fresh blue-green foliage bursting to a riot of bright yellow flowers in May. It then retreats to round squeezable pods and finally rests for the summer as a well-rounded, fuss-free, glad-to-be-there shrubby perennial. Come fall, the pods have hardened and turned an agreeable chocolate brown, ready for clipping and adding to arrangements.

Full-part sun. Height 3′. Spread 3-4′. NATIVE. Zones 5-8.
