Salvia greggii x involucrata
A new introduction from John Fisher of Australia. This one will catch your eye!
Large reddish-purple flowers with deep burgundy calyxes bloom spring to fall–the heaviest bloom occurring when evening temperatures are cool. Attracts hummingbirds, honeybees, and other pollinators. Shrub-like growth habit with a somewhat fountain shape.
Full-part sun. Height 3-4’. Spread 3-4’. Deer resistant. Compact, but benefits from pinching back foliage early in the growing season. Zone 7? Still in trial for cold hardiness. Worth a try!
