Japanese Forest Peony
Simplicity at its best. Everything about this peony will make you sigh with pleasure. Red crystalline shoots emerge in early spring, then open into beautiful large leaves with reddish pink rims. 4-5” single flowers with a delightful cluster of yellow anthers at the center bloom in spring. Seed pods are formed after flowering and in the fall burst open to reveal showy black seeds with a red pulp.
Full-part shade. Humus rich soils with adequate moisture. Deer resistant. Zones 3-8.
