Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Akebono’
Orange Flowered Paperbush
Silvery buds form in the fall and dangle all winter like ornaments on copper colored stems. Fragrant orange-red flowers follow, blooming the first warm days of February through March sending their sweet scent across the air. 5-8” straplike deep green leaves in a whorled pattern fill the stems in spring looking fresh and full all summer. A more rare color form–it is slightly less hardy than the straight yellow species, but makes up for it in its awesomeness of color.
Full-part shade. Height and spread 3-6’. Zones (6b)7-9.
